Recession Survival Tips 101
With all that’s been happening in the world, who isn’t worried about their financial stability or even their survival? Unemployment rates are increasing, people are going bankrupt, houses are being reclaimed and companies are laying off people and closing their gates, thus contributing more to the rising unemployment rates and the receding economy. When you start hearing words like recession and decreasing GDP all over the news and in everyone’s conversations, you should realize that you need to change some things about your attitude towards money in order to ensure your and your family’s survival during these difficult times.
Recession survival tips are quite clear and simple. Some people think that they should be followed even if there is no recession in order to act as a shield for whatever financial problem that may arise, be it major like the recession or minor like money shortage during a month.
One tip is that you need to be smart about your money spending techniques by keeping your spending to the minimal and start paying more attention to saving for an emergency fund and also contributing to your retirement plan. Spend money on your basic needs, settle your credit card payments and keep the cards for emergencies only, and if you can’t control your spending when it comes to credit cards, it is always safer to cut them up and get rid of them. Start saving for that emergency fund with whatever money left after you take care of your basic expenses. Keep the fund in a savings account, away from your immediate spending urges.
During recession and challenging financial times, the easiest way out for companies is to start reducing cost and laying off people. So your priority during that time is keeping your job. You can work extra hours, finish your tasks faster and better, and if you are doing your best in that area but still feel unsafe you can always look for a second job, something that can increase your income and if you lose the first job it will keep the paycheck coming until things settle down. And if you happen to be one of the hundreds laid off during such times, apply for unemployment benefits immediately.
Another tip to follow during a recession is not to take out a mortgage on your home. Your primary goal is keeping a roof on top of your family’s head, so don’t go near the roof for whatever reason. Just work on settling whatever deficiencies you have in your budget by any means other than risking the reclamation of your home.
It all really goes down to one thing, being in control of your life and preparing for the worst. By controlling what you spend and how you spend it, you will be able to use your income wisely and protect yourself against whatever global economic crises might bring your way.
